Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life’s coming attractions.
Richard and I purchased the Merribrook land in 1984 drawn to its magical energy, fresh water lakes, pristine natural bush, abundant native wildlife and close proximity to adventure locations such as the sea cliffs, caves, national parks and world class beaches. Merribrook was the first villa development approved by the Augusta-Margaret River Shire and Australia’s first Outdoor Adventure Lodge.
We draw our strength and balance from our greatest passions in life – our family and nature. This has always been complemented by our dedicated commitment to the quality of our product and to the environmental sustainability of this amazing Margaret River Region.
Like so many people, Merribrook has gathered many stories to share – fun, dramatic, celebratory, factual and mythological. If this land could speak, it would unravel the Merribrook Songline, guests sense the stories all around our sanctuary.
Many of our first loyal customers, who braved our opening months in late 1986, will recall the fun and frustrations Richard and I experienced launching Merribrook. The 1987 America’s Cup really put Merribrook on the world map – the BBC World Service taped our Kookaburras and journalists arrived in car loads to explore the undiscovered South West.
As the years rolled on, our family grew and grew and grew! And Merribrook overflowed with loyal staff and warm people. The trees reached further toward the sky and proudly we won State and National Tourism Awards, more recently the Jaguar Award for Excellence and Innovation in Travel, over a dozen awards are proudly displayed at Merribrook.
And now as 2014 dawns we continue to nurture this beautiful valley with a revamped orchard and larger vegetable gardens. The Merribrook Garden Philosophy more
The dedicated people who physically built Merribrook, those who believe in the dream and the vision, those who deliver daily to our guests, those who support Richard and I are all special and outstanding people and we thank them sincerely. We are proud of our achievements in this valley we named Merribrook 30 years ago.
